Ai Student Participates in The Urban Art Demonstration at the 2010 Olympics

Web Design student, Marina Mikulic, noticed a posting on one of the bulletin boards on campus advertising The Urban Art Demonstration for the Olympics. She quickly put together a portfolio to apply for the position, as applications were due the following day. A few days later she was notified that her work had been selected for the Olympics! She was thrilled!

This week, she has been stationed up on Cypress Mountain, painting snowboards and 8 x 8 canvases using acrylic paints, acrylic markers, and spray paint. She is receiving incredible exposure! Plus they they have been treating her very well; She received free food, art supplies, a pay check, and an Olympic access pass. She's been enjoying watching the events taking place at Cypress Mountain!

All of the artwork created by the Urban Art Demonstration artists will be auctioned off at the end of the Olympic Games period, with each artist receiving 60% of the net proceeds. The remaining 40% will go to the non-profit, Vancouver chapter of CHILL. CHILL serves youth facing a multitude of challenges: youth in group homes and foster care struggling with drug addictions, violence and anger or depression. This program gets them out of their current circumstance and gives them a chance to play in the mountains.

You too could have the opportunity to get exposure within the campus and Vancouver community. Continue to check the campus bulletin boards and speak to your instructors and academic directors about contests and other opportunities to become involved. Marina has received the opportunity of a lifetime. Congratulations to Marina! We look forward to seeing your work.
